SYNOPSIS
“….. Durga displayed both creativity and originality……. There was an aesthetic balance of Bhava and Nritta with some excellent footwork and choreography.” -- Indian Link, Melbourne.
Maathe, a “Bharathanatya” dance solo explores the feminine principle of “Shakti”, her role as the universal Mother and her manifestation as Shiva’s consort.
The Sanskrit word “Shakti” can be translated to mean “power” or “energy”. In human beings, she manifests as intelligence (“Buddhi”), compassion (“Daya”), and divine love (“Bhakthi”). In the creation of the cosmos, there are two radically distinct principles at play: matter (“Prakriti”) and spirit (“Purusha”).

Prakriti is the primordial matter which is present even before the cosmos comes into being. It is originally passive, immobile and pure by nature. It is only as a direct result of her contact with the kinetic Purushathat she then unfolds into various forms.
