SYNOPSIS
Showcasing excerpts from some of the world’s best-loved ballets over three centuries comes this latest installment of Dance Appreciation Series, which traces the evolution of ballet from the late 1800’s to the present day.
Sleeping Beauty, the ultimate expression of classical ballet at the end of the 19th century, has become one of the most-performed ballets in the world. Explore, with running commentary, how this piece has stood the test of time.
Entering the 20th century comes a short presentation of Concerto Barocco by George Balanchine-- dubbed the architect of classical ballet in America. Concerto Barocco is at the forefront of the neo-classical style. This excerpt showcases the upbeat music of two violins paired with the dramatic movements of two solo dancers.

The 21st century saw the rise of contemporary and modern dance. In Glow-Stop by Jorma Elo, discover how contemporary dance differs from neo-classical and classical dance, in this piece that engages the audience in a breathtaking flow that is reminiscent of a light that is switched on, then off, in rapid succession.
