SYNOPSIS
A dynamic constellation of object, body, movement and space that generates a new theatrical experience.

Georg Buchner’s Woyzeck remains one of the most enigmatic and influential works of modern theatre. Woyzeck is based on the true story of Johann Christian Woyzeck, a lowly soldier in Leipzig, Germany found guilty of murdering his mistress in 1824. Between his conviction and execution, he was subjected to a dehumanising medical examination to determine if he should be held responsible for his actions. The implications of this scrutiny provide the impetus of Buchner’s play. The drama is shocking both for its content and its radically innovative episodic, hallucinogenic structure.
The Sadari Movement Laboratory reinterprets Woyzeck in a way which illuminates its hidden potential while advancing a new language in physical theatre. Using wooden chairs as a changeable metaphor, the performers both shape the dramatic space and reveal the characters’ emotional states, while Astor Piazzolla’s dynamic tango becomes the throbbing pulse of the drama.

Founded in 1999 by company director Im Do Wan after his studies at the L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris, Sadari Movement Laboratory comprises the creative contributions of all its members. The group creates in Woyzeck a surprising and deeply moving theatrical event, transformed and revitalised in Mime-Image Theater in which the truth and tragedy of the human condition are revealed in movement and moving architecture.
Total Theatre Award for Best Physical Theatre Production and Herald Angel Award, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, 2007.

Performed in Korean with English surtitles.

Physical Theatre Workshop by Im Do Wan
Im Do Wan founded the Sadari Movement Laboratory in 1999 after he graduated from the renowned International Theatre School Jacques Lecoq. Upon his return to Korea, he began working with non-verbal-kinetic theatre.

One of the distinguishing features of the Sadari Movement Laboratory is the fully collaborative energies of all its members in the creative process – from analysis of the text and its translation to bringing the text to life through kinetic images, producing a theatrical experience in the economy and versatility of movement.

In this workshop, Im will share with participants his working methods through exercises. For participants with physical and/or movement experience, aged 16 and above only. Wear comfortable clothings. Limited to 25 participants.
